Growing a TapRoot

We discovered long ago that moving is the one thing we know how to do very well. We have met so many wonderful people in all our moves and we count ourselves lucky to know them. But we now long for a place to call home, to grow roots and sustainably live in place.

Cooking Real Food ins Fun and Easy

This week we had a lot of fun preparing real food. It came to our attention that not everyone knows how to cook, For this reason they prepare food from a box because it is easier. We hope that by watching us they will realize how easy it is to cook with real food. Instead of just telling them what we did to prepare it, we will demonstrate how a little more in the future.

In less than a half hour we prepared chicken enchiladas, Italian green beans and steamed Cauliflower. Easy peasy. But don’t be intimidated. Learn a little at a time. It will come.

Criteria for searching for our home

1. We are usiing a VA loan so the criteria is strict. It can’t be a modular. It has to be livable. It has to have accessible heat, not just a wood stove. There can only be one home on the property. There have to be comparable properties sold in the last 6 months.
2. We want at least 180 frost free growing days.
3. We need enough pasture to mob graze 2 cows.
4. The area needs to allow livestock. (We found that out the hard way this week.)
5. Homestead business goals require available marketing source of customers.
6. You need enough rain or a good supply of inexpensive water.
Not an exhaustive list but a good start.
